Hey guys i"m new to the site and new to owning a 2002 EB Expedition 4x4 , I did a search on how to change the fuel filter and found that you need a special tool to do this, can some one tell me where to get one and what the part number is for one thanks
Bought a plastic set at AutoZone--fits many applications, probably not as good as the metal ones but it works everytime I needed it to. Cost around
$10.00. It goes over the fuel line then slides into filter.
I've used both the metal-scissor like and the plastic kind that comes in set. I find the palstic one easier to use and less likely to damage the clip. I may have done something wrong but I did damage a clip using the scissor-like one in my 00 XP-EB (no longer with me since it was totaled a couple of months back). Did the fuel filter replacement again in my recently acquired 99 XP-XLT and found the plastic kind more user-friendly and did it perfectly this time.
And if you decide to buy the plastic set & want to save a few dollars, buy it from Pep Boys (Performance Tool brand AC/Fuel line Disconnect Tool), only cost me less than $5.00, the same set cost $10.00 from Autozone (OEM brand).
Another good reason to buy the plastic kind is not to have any doubt about the size of the one you will get, its a set of different size for a whole lot of use. Unless of course you will take the trouble of measuring the actual size of your fuel line using precision caliper, or get that info from somewhere for your specific model-year (it could have changed compared to earlier models for all we know). For your reference, for 99 & 00, its 5/16".
I just changed my fuel filter in my 2000, really easy. I purchased the AC/Fuel filter ring set at AutoZone for around $6. Just remember to relieve the pressure in the system before you change the filter. I did this by using the switch behind the passenger kick panel.
