Hello, I have a 48 F4 that I just picked up. The cab, doors, hood are pretty much shot, not much hope. The frame is nice and all the drive-train is in very good shape. I am in the process of searching for a new cab, and tuning the motor. I also am looking for wheels and tires if anyone can point me in the right direction. I will have pictures very soon, if anyone is interested.
2 questions......have you thought about a 4x4 conversion for the F-600, could you provide me with the model numbers of the Clark 5 speed and the Eaton 2 speed rear end?
I believe the Eaton rear end would fit my 55 F-600....I have also considered a 4x4 conversion for my F-600 if I could locate the parts or another truck.
Thanks,
Rick

1956 F600 with a '55 cab on her. 12 ft. flatbed dump and the y-block. Rebuilt everything but drive train. Engine is boat anchor after snapping camshaft. Currently looking for replacement/upgrade. Kinda miss driving the old girl.
I finally got the 55 F-600 running today and drove it around town a little!
At first I had a bit of a hard time trying to figure out why it was backfiring through the carb after timing it. Well.....It seems that when I swapped out the distributor cap.......I......got #4 & #5 switched! (big surprise!) At first I was SURE that I got it right so that was the last thing I checked of course!!!
It actually ran pretty good and seemed not to miss ...Until I tried to accelerate that is.....Even though it was running on only 6 cyls! All the wiring is new, plugs are new, and I replaced the points and capacitor with a Pertronix unit. AND after I got the firing order correct it runs real good!
I need to find a new bed for it now....or build one. I think I'll also do a dump bed for it when I do that.
I will say that I really recommend the Pertronix unit for these old trucks. You can just completely forget about having to mess with points and condenser permanently. I am not using the companion Pertronix coil but I have it ordered. They're about $30 or so.
I bought the Pertronix unit from a company called Warehouse Auto Parts for about $65.
The price included shipping too. The whole mess is installed in a much later distributor I got from another Ford-Trucks.com member.
I think it's worth it.
I guess I've got a long way to go to get this truck restored. It's got a 239 V-8 and a T-98 + a Timkin 6.80:1 rear end.
It originally came with a 6cyl so I'd like to go back to a 6. I just haven't decided which kind of 6 to do! ....(It might be either a FORD 300 I-6/C6 or a Cummins I-6/5speed)
I do have some pictures in my Gallery.
Regards,
RIck
