Thumbs up

No pics currently, but I have a 51 F6 farm truck that I will be working on in the next few years. 239 flathead v-8, synchro 4 speed, vacuum 2 speed rear end. I think the last time I looked it was around 70k on it. Not much paint left on it, but very solid - just surface rust. Only real dented up area is the top of the cab from kids jumping up there back when it was in use for hauling grain, hay, etc. Dad says about 45 miles an hour was a comfortable speed with a load on, started hard when it was hot, and you can NOT beat the sound of a flathead v-8!

Will take pics and post up when I make it home to the farm in April...

Yeah!

V E R Y N I C E !!

Great pictures!!

Ok.....the burning question......Where'd you get the tires,,,(radials, bias ply etc....20"?) Where'd you get the wheels(lockring or solid wheels (tubeless?)

I had to buy my wheels (rebuilts) from Les Schwab Tires. $225 each. Toyo 9.00-20 radials front and recap radials back. (about $2800 for the wheels/tires/tubes/flaps when the yelling and crying was all done!!)

Regards,

Rick

The tires are from southern tire mart in sulpher LA. 10ply bias 8.25x20 full lug rears, and 7.50 road tires front. I had to run the smaller tires up front(factory tire size buy the way) to clear my frame during full lock turns. I figured the taller rears will help out my top end. $150 for the rears and $130 for the fronts. total mounted was $1089.00 including tubes, liners, and taxes. I got super lucky on the wheels, no one would mount the rusted widowmakers so I found a set in a junkyard(while I was looking for some parts for my truck on an old ford there) on an early dodge for $50 each. I paid $40 each to have them blasted and painted. I have tried everywere I can think of for some one peice wheels but no dice. I even tried stockton wheel. Some one does make them however because if you check out this months issue of classic truckin mag there is this F*I*N*E ford wrecker sporting some 5 lug Acoa's. Talk about sweet and probly expensive.

OOps I almost forgot the tire place had to order them it took like a week to come in. I can find out from who and a local tire shop were yall are at could order em. I had to seriously shop around to find someone to even find the sizes I need. The wheels are two peice with the lockring on the front edge of the wheel. I beleive the centers are the same made by the same company but the hoop was probly specified by the manufacter.

Mine had 8.25-20's all the way around....I didn't want to go back to 7.50's because of the diameter (with a 6.80:1 rear you need all you can get!!) The tire dealer couldn't get 8.25's, they ASSURED me that the 9.00-20's would fit......Well, they do, barely!

I may have to "hog" out the front wheel wells a little just to feel better.....I have been driving it quite a bit and they do not rub. (I did set the stops so it doesn't rub the frame though.....the turn radius isn't all that bad!) I only lost a few degrees of turn.

If I had it to do all over again.....I would either get a 56 or newer truck or get 56 or newer axles(or hubs) and go with 6 lug 19.5" tubeless wheels.

I'll definitely have to add leafs in the front when I put the Cummins in it. and at that time I'll probably raise it up a couple of inches (which will give me a little more room....right now the tires miss the fender by about an inch.

Those Alcoas would probably be around $500 specially made for 5 lug service! They are sharp!
