Check for the VIN in the glove box or on the top of one of the frame rails ahead of the cab. It is sometimes hard to find the VIN on the rails - a little oil/water, a wire brush, and a flashlight are a big help. Workingdog, The way I do it is look at the chrome on the hood real close. Then check it against pictures of 48's and 49's. And for weather it is a F-4 Look on Id tag 10,000 lbs GVW is F-4. You can look in My photo gallary for an example of F-4
Earl, anyone, I checked your links refverance page on truck id's and in the secton on diff.t
Types listed I don't have any one of them! Any Idea on what I have.pic below.
Looks like an older Timken 51524 with the split pumpkin. Timken bought out Rockwell and the axle is sometimes referred to as a Rockwell. Gaskets and some parts are still available. Barry and Dueller know more about this particular axle and maybe they can chime in to any specific questions you may have.
Well, I'm not that magical. At any rate, no, I don't have any experience with that rear end. There are a few other folks that will be along who can answer your questions. Hang in there.
The numbers are stamped into the frame, both of the numbers on my 1950's are on the passengers side frame rail. This one is by the motor mount. My other truck is forward about 6" almost by the radiator. It looks like the the numbers ended up where ever the were stamped no measuring involved.

Got a '53 F-800, '54 F-750 on it's way, and a '53 F-600 on it's way. The F-600's giving up its cab for my '53 F-800. I've also got a '54 F-350. The '53 F-800's getting a crewcab conversion, and going on a '73 L-8000 frame if it doesn't sell.
That was weird. The thread jumped, and this went to the wrong page. This post has nothing to do with this thread.

Yes, there are some of my photos in the gallery for the '53 model year. I don't have a lot of pics, but as i progress with my F-800 project, more will follow. My F-800 is getting a crewcab conversion, and going on my '73 L-8000 tandem dump truck chassis (unless some one buys the dumptruck).
