I replaced a idler on my 3.8L Taurus last year, it was about $15 & lifetime warranty at A/Z & was a nice metal one, compared to the composit OEM idler pulley, which Motorcraft wanted $40 for & a 90 day warranty!!!! Bet you can guess which one I'm running!!!!
I think around $13.00 at NAPA, But measure yours first or drive the vehicle there, because there are 2 different diameters, I had to take one outside the store to the parking lot to confirm which one I needed!...Good Luck!
Fixed! Called the Local FORD Shop, talked to the guy I bought my tires from and gave me a reun down "Memory Lane".
Scuff the belt(s) idiot!
Engine running, on the 3.0, insert a LARGE screwdeiver or bladed tool into a free area wher the belt is running and gently press it against the bladded and smoth side.

This can be VERY dangerous, if you chose to try it be VERY careful!!!
IMHO this proceedure is an accident waiting to happen!!!!
If your belts are noisey, there is a reason for it & scraping the belt isn't likely to be a lasting fix for the problem.
You really need to find & fix the root cause, then she'll stay quiet!!!!
If the belt is acquiring some kind of contaminate that needs to be scrapped off, then find & fix the cause of the contamination & then clean the belt & it's pulleys with detergent, or replace the the belt if cleaning it isn't practical, or it's so worn that it's noisy.

I agree with both of you and yes, it can be dangerious. I guess I am just used to taking "some" risks around running engines.
