It stalls out in the morning. 1998 F150 2WD 4.6 Auto 147,000 miles.
Just the frist time it's started each day. With my foot off the gas I turn the key and it starts right up, revs up to about 1500 and then down to zero. I turn the key again with a little help from the gas pedal and off we go till the next morning. Starts just fine all day after that. I keep my truck running like new and it didn't do this when it was new so I thought I might see if anyone has dealt with this or have any suggestions.
The IAC (Idle Air Control) valve is sticking or sluggish. You can remove it and clean it with carb cleaner, or just replace it. It is common on older engines. They get build-up on them over the years and don't act right.
I took it off and cleaned it. I got some small bits of carbon out of it and let it soak in cleaner (not the electric) for a while. It's been a week now and the problem is gone.
