I am needing to replace the brake booster on my 82 F-100 300. Is this a hard project to complete, or should I get a mechanic to do it? I can't stand the sound of the vacuum leak. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
4 nuts under the dash on the clutch/brake pedal bracket, remove clip holding rod to brake pedal, disconnect brake lines from master cylinder and master cylinder and booster should pull right out. About a 15 minute removal process.
Hey man, I own an '82 flareside, with a 300, and I did the brake booster job myself with no problem, it is nice to have to have a buddy around though. Belive me, if I can do it, anyone can, I'm only fifteen.
Goodluck!

Be careful not to buy junk. I went through 3 brake booster pots before I finally got my money back and went to the dealer. Buy cheap, change often. Buy well and be done with it.
You can cheat on having to remove the brake lines from the master cylinder. I have a couple of times. Remove the master cylinder from the vaccum booster, slide it forward gently just enough to clear the studs on the booster and gently tweak the steel lines as you come off with it. You can get it out of the way enough doing this. I used a piece of broken broom handle layed from the top of the air breather to the wheel well between the brake lines to support it. It saves some work!!
thanks for the info I finally got the time to take care of the booster this past weekend it was simple and I did not have to unhook the master cylinder thanks for the help.
