i have a 1982 f150 2wd it has a old 302 in it and my neighbor is giving me a well taken care of 351M here is what i need to know...
will this just drop right in? if not what all do i need to change or move?
my truck had a auto tranny (no overdrive) will my tranny bolt up to the 351M??
where is the axle code located at on the axle??
thanks for your help!!!!
The 351 will not bolt up. The 302 is a small block and it had a different bolt pattern than that 351. The 351 has the 429/460 bolt pattern. You will have to change your transmission if you want to put in the 351 along with perches and motor mounts.
ok, here is 1 more? if the tranny from the 302 will not work, what size tranny do i need to look for?? will a tranny from a 351W or a 351C work on a 351M???

Hey, I am right in the middle of getting ready to swap a 302 to a 351M. You will need a big block bell housing for sure, on a C6 trans would be best. I still do not know if the 351M is going to fit in my 84 F-150 without to much hassle. Send me some email at reuel@wirespeed.com
I really want to talk to you over the phone about this. I can have an engine coming in next week and will be doing this quick like if its going to work.
The 351M is considered a big block (actually a destroked 400M) and requires a big block bell housing on the transmission and big block perches/motor mounts. The 351W and 351C engines are small blocks and use the small block bell housings and motor mounts. Once those two quirks are taken care of, the rest should be a piece of cake; except of course for the front mounted accessories like the power steering pump, A/C, smog pump, and altenator. Make sure you keep the brackets from the 351M!!
