I have 2000 ex, 7.3 psd, 4" exhaust, with Diablo tuner set at 65 hp setting. I don't have egt, boost, trans gauges installed yet. Last week I decided to check what boost pressure the turbo is putting out, so I connected a tee to the airline going to the map sensor and used a vacuum/pressure gauge. What i am getting at idle is less than 1 psi, and at 2000 rpm the boost pressure is only 2 psi. I drove it around the block the highest boost pressure is only 3 psi at 2000 rpm. Do I have a problem? What is the normal boost pressure for this engine? The engine warranty will expire this year any input is appreciated.
yes yo9u should be getting more boost than that. i would start with your gauge setup and make sure your connections are good. or try a different gauge. with that little of boost you would be having alot of drivability issues like no power maybe black smoke. i am going to guess there is a flaw in your guage setup but i may be wrong. hope that helps

I just spoke with Ford Technician, and mentioned to him about the vacuum/pressure gauge used to measure the boost. He said that there is supposed to be no boost at idle the only time I should get boost is if I floored the accelrator and @ 3500 rpm with load. Now, is that true? Tim I was thinking of the same thing about using the proper gauge but the Ford tech did not say to the contrary. James

that isn't right... i'm no ford tech, but that isn't right... i get plenty of boost WELL below 3500 rpm... especially when i'm towing... hell... i rarely run my rpms that high..!

i think he means with it in park(the ford guy you talked too).....if thats the case you will see very little with it floored... if you were just cruising the neighborhood you will be hard pressed to get over 5. take it out and get on it a little bit then you will see that gauge start to work. 3500 on the freeway should bring somewhere over 20 for sure. 3000 for me brings 23psi i dont like to go any faster.

ok, call me dumb, but why would anybody be talking about boost pressure when it's in park... that's not going to give you any kind of idea what the turbo can actually do... will it..?.... and i wouldn't want to run my rpms up that high with NO LOAD on the motor... that's just asking for problems...
