power window problem
OK, here's the deal.
I did actually find a shop manual and copied the diagram, so I'm going from start to finish there.
1. as stated the pass window quit working, I took a test light and checked the driver's master swtich, and the driver's pass window swtich. (they appear to be powerred from the same wire, and the power passes through the master swtich to the pass window swtiches).
2. I had power going into the master switch but not coming out, so I replaced the switch with a known good unit. (I believe it has a printed internal circuit that passes the current to the next switch) It kinda threw me a curve when it still didn't work, but once I found the diagram I discoverred that I did now have power from the master switch to both the driver's side pass window switch AND the pass window switch (I know it's a little confusing).
3. At this point I romoved the pass side door panel. (It took about 2 minutes and is super simple DO NOT pay to have this done!!). From asking around I found out that the motors have a habit of sticking, so I applied (lightly) a maximum force adjustment tool (hammer) to the motor casing (lightly as to not damage it). I then lubed it with WD40 and it works like a champ.
The only question that remains is that did the window sticking burn out the master switch, OR did the master switch wear out from use (185,000 miles) and the stuck motor finish it off? At any rate it all works now, FWIW, I had the starter motor do the same thing once. It sounded like a dead battery, just a click. I turned the crank and it disengaged the starter from the flywheel, I then cleaned up the starter drive lubed it and the flywheel teeth and checked the connections, it's been happy ever since (50,000 miles).
Anyway, thanks for the help guys I at least know I have another resource to go to.
