My sons Ipod seems to be acting up. Sometimes it will just scroll through the songs and not play any of them, sometimes none of the buttons will work, and other times it works fine. Its is the 15g version I think a Gen III. I have tried the reset method in the manual but it is a temp fix if it works at all. He did drop it in the grass at one point and I first thought that the drive was scratched but it will work some of the time so I kind of ruled that out. Are there any other ways to reset these (master clear) or are there other repair methods anyone has had success with. This is his favorite thing and I really don't have the money to replace it right now.
If it has a warranty, take it back!!! Mine did the same thing and what it was was the data was just corrupted and anything I tried to put on it would corrupt instantly. It's not really repairable unfortunately. Of course, it's not necessarily the same problem, but if it has a warranty, you should be able to have it replaced......
Dropping it in the grass shouldnt hurt it. MY brother dropped his on the tile without any kind of case and it's still kicking. I, on the other hand, wasn't so lucky. Mine was in the floorboard of the truck and a friend of mine stepped on it and cracked the screen in two places.
A buddy of mine just had a similar problem. Hold the ipod up to your ear and if you can hear the hard drive "tick tick ticking" then the hard drive is bunged up. It will just get worse. He bought the extended warranty (to get a freebee when the battery dies in a year or so), so he is now sending his back for a replacement.
Thanks for the replies. We bought it for him from Ebay so no Warranty. but I did not pay full price either. I'll keep messing with it and see what happens.
