Ok I am perplexed. My Toshiba m45 laptop is not listing the cd-rom. Nor does it run a cd when I insert one. I have installed new drivers all the way to reformating back to original. Still nothing. It powers up and spins the disc's but doesn't work. Toshiba site is pretty much a dead fish when it comes to solving this problem. I searched my brains off to no avail. My thoughts are it my be the windows xp. I ran updates and searched for any thing at microsoft. I also searched the cd-rom manufacture site and sitll stuck. You help is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Is this a removable cd drive? If it is try removing then slam it back in..
I have seen where they don't make a good connection if you just press them in..
You might also want to clean the contacts and check if they are damaged...
Did this just happen in the last few days? If it did you may want to try System Restore..
Thanks donjamer.
I took it to a repair shop. They said it was a bad drive and replaced it. I bring the laptop home and I see it listed as soon as I insert a cd. It disappears from the listing again. What the heck. More gas and still happening. they don't fix it. The repair shop will own it. buy giving me a new lap top! Even if they like it or not! I am getting fed up. Sorry for the vent.
My niece's computer suffered the same problem but with the wireless radio, the shop replaced it twice before they realized the motherboard was cracked. Only nice part was it was all under warranty.
Thanks Crash687. I had time to sleep on it and calm down. That is where my thinking is going now. That or the one of the pins on the board is not fully connected. I share your joy about the warranty, so is mine
Of course I also bought the last one they had in stock.
