"Looks halfway competent??" This aint a beauty pageant bra! No offense, but purtiness dont matter a hoot! Out of context? Prolly a little. ;-) When you look at the "polls", it appears that GWB is doing a pretty fair job. Guess we can wait a year or so and then see what everyone thinks. Betcha itll be positive! Anyhoo, GeeDub is a Whole lot more personable than Mac. That fella just looks (and acts) like he fell on a corncob....
And yep, It is a business. All the more reason for GWB.
Aint it interesting how this thread is morphing?

I keep hearing that W has no war record. I thought he served in the Texas Air Force. Weren't no Viet Cong airraids on Texas that I heard about. He must have done his job pretty well, I'd say.

When we presume to "Micro-Manage" the lives of everyone, it implies that the common people have NO IDEA what "Decency" means.
Such that it has to be enforced by outside means.

We don't have quite so much of that down in the south.

In fact, I can tell immediately when I have entered the Southern States -
NOT BY the highway signs, but purely and simply because of this:

People are polite.

It's just that simple.

Quote: "The surest sign of a society in decline is a lack of manners"

In my opinion, the north is GUILTY by that definition.

Im going to stick with feat on this one too. we do need someone who isnt afraid to tell people where to stick their lobbyist and their ideas. i wish a real person could be pres. no someone that plays games to make sure everyone is happy. for my college course i got to do a 20 page paper on gun control. ill tell you what i had more sources than i could count that say a country with strict gun laws has more violence than countries wihtout strict laws. ok u million moms, dont want your kids gettin shot, thats fine, lock them in your house if your that worried. you prob. drive your minivan to the grocery store, than pick your kids up at soccer practice, and vote for gore. they are the type of parents that bring their kids to the hospital for a bee sting. oh you dont want your kids gettin stung anymore, so make a march banning bees in the country you...oh god i wish i could say what i wanted to say but i will keep it clean, im sure u can fill it in. i just wish someone with a sac would go up and run for pres. got my vote the whole way.

Yeah, right.
Geez...and all this time I thought it was the irritating and pushy out'a friggin' state'rs from NY,NJ,PA,MA,MD,VA,NC,SC,TN,GA,TX (motorhome turtle people),LA,FL(old farts),OK,OH,KY,MI etc,etc...that clog our roads during the summer, buy up our coast and try to impose their values on us hapless native Maine'rs when they want to "escape" the rat-race" and live the "way life should be" on the rugged New England coast. Oh puh-leeze.....
You may hate northerners...but most folks around around here rail against anyone south of the bridge (some call it the Volvo-line) over the Piscataqua River (sorry, but that does includes my cousins in Atlanta, GA and Kerrville, TX)....Yeah, the winters are long and difficult (don't even think of moving here, we have such a large, diverse population)....9 months of winter and three months of darn lousy sledding.

And here, all these years, I thought WE invented honor and decency.

YOU'RE UNIQUE JUST LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE.........

Hey roscoe, while I hear where you are coming from, I think it's safe to say that there are more Yankees coming South than Southerners going North. I've been to Maine but I couldn't get outa there fast enough. Large diverse populations and six month winters aren't my idea of paradise. While your coastline is beautiful, the beaches in my neck of the woods are warm enough to inhabit. I'll make you a deal. I'll stay out of Maine if you stay out of SC. Peace

Actually, our total state population is right around 1 million people...smaller than most major cities and Maine has the lowest non-white population in the nation, if thats what you mean. Crime rates are among the lowest in the country. As to the winter, well, I can't argue with you on that one, except that they are rather exaggerated. Its a small price to pay though, when the tourists leave and all is quiet.

Long live Down East...I've been from Kitchener, Ontario to West Palm Florida, and I have to say New England is the best way of life. Don't get me wrong, the southern states with their red mud, their green grass, their beautiful views, they are great states, but New England...ahhhh. Four real seasons: Warm lazy summer days sitting on the docks, The most colorful Autums anywhere in the world, The white winters sledding down hills where hay grew a few months before, and the springs when the sunshowers move in and soak you through, yet you don;t care, you still stand there in the rain, watching life return to the land. I spent many summers staying with my aunt and uncle up in Cumberland, and Maine is great, it's a whole separate way of life, from seeing all the people smiling in downtown Freeport, to the grandpa's drvin their tractors down the side of the roads in Warren, to the shipyard in Bath...God I love it. But being born and raised in Mass, I'd have it no other way. You say Massachusetts to an out-of-stater, and they say...M*******s (I hate that). Boston. City. Smog. Slum. That is utter BS. Boston is incredible, but I'm not even from the city. I'm from a small suburb, Reading. You know everyone in the town. It's quiet. It's beautiful. Massachusetts is the heart of New England, and one of 50 hearts beating in this great nation. I love Mass, I love New england, I love this Nation with all my heart, no matter where you're from.

Well put, Ryan. I agree 100 percent. I guess what gets me is the attitude (arrogance) that somehow "you" are so special, unique, and honorable, that, in the entire history of the world, over 20,000 years of human history and over 5 billion people currently on this beleaguered planet of ours, there is someone (whether they are from Maine, the south, or Afghanistan) who actually believes that they have EVERYTHING figured out. The smartest. The most hard working. The most honorable. The most righteous. Gods own children. The Chosen Ones. Lambs of Christ. The Taliban.

Yeah, right. I haven't felt so special since I declared myself Master of the Universe.

Everyone sucks except for me.

I know that the issue of slavery is back a few replys but I cant keep my mouth shut on it. Whereas some ignorant people like to believe that slavery started in the South and was glorified by our entire population the truth is that most Southerners could care less about slaves because most didnt have them. While most people were racist so was most everyone up north. That is why the country of Liberia was founded so that abolitionists could send the slaves they freed out of the country because they didnt want them to take jobs away from whites in the cities. Then theres the fact that the only ships that ever brought slaves into the country flew under the stars and stripes and never under the Confederate ensign. The only reason slavery didnt stay in the North was because the land up there was not suited for the agriculture that the South was suited for, not because they were all great crusaders for equality. They would have just as soon spit and stomped them as look at them as was displayed in the 1863 draft riots up north because they didnt want to free any slaves. I also do not align myself with any political parties but instead think of myself as a Southern Nationalist who believes The South should break away from the opressors under which our culture and heritage is run down more and more all the time along with the help of stupid liars like Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton and the entire NAACP who dont deserve to live
