C6 to OD

C6 to OD
I have a 88 F250 w/460 and the 3 speed C6. Of course, 8-9 mpg. Is there an overdive that could be added to this trans.? Would changing to a E40OD or to a 5 speed stick be advisable? Would rearend gearing have to be changed also? Cost of these?? Hate to get rid of the truck as it is great for the camper and towing a boat, but with gas prices not likely to come down....... Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

Running a gear less than 4.11 while hurt your MPG. Not help it. I would go with the ZF 5 speed. The E4od is very costly to rebuild and has been known to have a few issues with it. Plus a manual trans takes less HP to run. Another thing is the truck will eed the computer and wiring for the E4od.
