I have a 92 F150 with 351 and E4OD. The tranny just crapped out on me. What options do I have? If I just change the computer could I put in a C6 or do I have to change the harness? Would I be better off just putting another E4OD in? Help I need options.
Define "crapped out". Many people jump to the conclusion the trans is fried if it starts to bang-shift and generally misbehave, when the reality is there's usually nothing wrong with the trans it's the MPLS module or one of the engine sensors that is the root cause of the problem. If you haven't done so already you need to pull the codes and fix any issue that are present, but if you have already done your due diligence and the trans has positively been identified as the problem, then another E4OD will be the easiest swap. A C6 will go in but you likely need a different driveshaft and cross member as well and of course you also lose overdrive, or you could swap in an AOD and retain overdrive but again there are additional parts needed. In both cases an EEC change isn't absolutely necessary but it is if you want to avoid having a hugh list of check engine codes and a constant CE light. A computer from a C6 or manual trans truck of any year except '96 would be a suitable replacement.
how ya making out jsalveson?
did you pull the solenoid pack plug to inspect, clean and grease it yet?
it's the connector located on the pass side of the trans.
if you see bare wires going into this plug (fairly common) it's sold separately so you can just replace it.
the problems with E4ods are too many to list
check all your electrics 1st- connections, shift packs e.t.c
