Edelbrock Streetmaster

I have found a Streetmaster intake for $150.00 and was wondering if it would be a good manifold. My engine is a 352 .040 over Comp cams 278H a 600 Holley. and oh yea an N.O.S Sniper system. The best I have run is 13.93 @ 102mph. Will this intake help me?

I suppose it depends on gear ratio, convertor? It is more of an upper rpm manifold, so you'll loose low end torque. If you can't leave high enough in rpm, it will suffer.

skinsey, for $150 I find that high, I paid $40 back in 78. The ports are too small, low end loss was minimal, top end "ok" on a 360 / 390 and 410. It ran as good if not better than a Performer in unported condition. Mine is "wall art".

If you clean up the ports it will probably work ok. The nitrous will make all the low end torque you'll ever need, and the manifold should help high end. What intake are you running now? If it's a Performer RPM I'd leave it, anything else I'd go ahead and use it.

DSC has 'em for $170, so that's really not *that* bad.

Rusty, and last year I shot the Streetmaster three times on the wall with a paint ball gun, must wash and dust it off. Been told it's good for a MPI system should I go that route later. Things were cheaper 27 years ago I guess.

Larry, I think you were thinking of the Old Racemaster!!

And Kurt is right..About porting one..they can work well...But with that said... I bought a new one Back in 75 or 76....and it was $90 new....

But stop and think about it this way....$150 for the Intake..(in my opinion to much) and the price of some port work $??? depending on who does it... = a minimum of $250 at least.... New Performer RPM about $280

I dont know..you do the math...JMHO....

Oh PS.. and thats not including Media Blasting to get the Intake looking good.

RapidRuss, good point on media blasting, I have run across some nasty beat up looking aluminum intakes that have scars and not show well. Dress with file and flap wheel then bead blast, they become show quality. $25 to $75 is my maximum price for used intakes. DSC wants $550 for welded on cracked intakes.

Just a little correction on the Streetmaster. I've seen this manifold referred to as an upper rpm manifold a few times and it just aint so. The Streetmaster was a product of the first gas crunch in the 70's. It was sold as a low- mid range manifold and to improve fuel economy. Hence the smaller runners. I recently e-mailed an Edelbrock tech about a question I had about my Steetmaster and he said it should pull good to 5500.

tasty, at least you got an answer from Edelbrock tech, I asked about the running manners on a F-427 made by them. Three times with three different "techs", two didn't know what a F-427 was and the other only heard of one thru ford enthusists. Zip, zero on the operating range. I found out it's Edelbrock's verson of the 428 aluminum PI intake. Anyone know the operating range of a Sidewinder intake? Any low end lost vs the F-427 or PI intake?

Russ, I know mine is really old. It's also been hogged on too. Never got to install it on anything. It was going on black car(until blower came around). I was "told" it was better for upper rpm(being a single plane version), and with good port job it worked well. Now, this is 70's teknolgie so I'm sure there is alot better things now. (not that I own anything newer than '69!! )

Yep Larry....That would be a good intake for midrange and top end...Alot of the Old Aftermarket Intakes back then ..had alot of extra meat in them.. And gave a good porter alot of room for Hogging the runner's out...and they would out flow there more exspensive counterparts after Good porting was done.. Because the one's that had the larger ports from the Casting foundry didnt leave any room for a good Port other that a port match!!

But I have also seen..them ported out So much..that the cross section in the port was so large for a street/strip car..that they wouldnt even really Idle right for the street.....Cause they wouldnt keep Volocity below say 1200 RPM...
