05 Escape 6 CD changer problem

05 Escape 6 CD changer problem
My 05 Escape has the standard 6 CD changer. It worked when I got it now anytime I put in CD's it spits them out while flashing "CHECK CD". I use only commercially bought CD's and these same discs worked in it before. So, several questions...
1. Any ideas what might be causing this?
2. Anyone ever returned to the dealer for warranty work on a stereo? What kind of experience did you have?
3. Any suggestions on what to replace it with as far as an upgrade? I'd like to stay with a Ford unit just for looks and to avoid any cutting of wires. How well do the MP3 players work?
