Hey everyone, ive got a 1994 Ranger with a jensen 340W 2 chn amp and a pioneer 450W 12" sub, i just hooked it all up today, i get power to the amp, but no output thru the sub. Me and my buddy hooked the same setup to his car and i think we got a little something out of the sub, due to the cd player. he said the amp might be bad, but im not sure yet, what do you guys think?
I am a really huge newb to all of this kinda stuff, on the back of my cd player there is some connectors labeled S.W Out, and then theres 2 sets of Pre Out plugins, which one am i supposed to connect the amp wire to? also, when i hooked it up to my friends wires, we could hear sound coming out of the sub, mine doesnt make any noise at all, ive hooked it up to both the bridge channel and the other. I have no idea what the deal is.
Use the SW Out plugs on the radio. Make sure they're going into the input side. jensen amps offer pass thru on some models. Also, when bridging, make sure you use L+, R-. If not hooked up right, the amp will not work. Another thing to check is RCA's. Are they new ones? They may be bad.
to check the sub...take a AA battery and touch it to the two wires for just a quick second...if you hear a lil "thump" ...it works...if not...it dont... lol
as far your amp...try a mulitmeter on the outputs....
make sure your remote lead from the cd player to the amp is hooked up. this send a low voltage signal to a relay in the amp to tell it turn on along with the cd player. if for some reason you dont have a remote line from ur cd player you can use a line that is only hot when the ignition is on.
test your sub with a multi-meter. the resistance of the coil should be close to whatever it is...so for a 2 ohm sub..you'll probable see like 1.5 ohm on the meter. if it's 0..then it's no good.
