ok i have a detroit true track and a auburn electric locker both my axles are 8.8 which would be better for the mud the auburn up front or in back and same with the true track.
Ideally when you get to setting things up you're best to use the selectable locker in the front and the regular locker in the back (if you're not doing 2 selectables). A locked axle in the front can make steering very difficult whereas with the selectable you only turn it on when you need it.
well the true trac is a limitted slip the auburn is selectable so its not 2 lockers i just didnt know if there was any kind of advantage to putting the selectable up front and the limited slip out back.thanks
by the way its in a 97 regularcab shortbed f-150 that has the 8.8 front and back.

You cant put a locker or limited slip in the front of these trucks as they run a Center Axle Disconnect system. If you do, you'll be spinning the front driveshaft at all times increasing wear and drag. Actually, come to think of it, you may be able to put the selectable up front, but you would run the risk of tearing up the weaker CV joints. But doesnt the Auburn act like a limited slip when not locked up?
I would keep the front open and put the selectable locker in the rear, so you can drive it on the street without chewing up your tires and only locking it up when you need to get through some rough stuff.
The 8.8 in the front of your truck is a whole different animal than the 8.8 rear if i remember right, This mostly has to do with the fact that the ifs front axle housing is a lot different then the rear housing.
