Re-setting Check Engine Light

Does anybody know how to re-set the check engine light on a 99 Sable. I know this is a Truck Forum but I need some help. I went to AutoZone to get the code read. It showed P0401 EGR flow insufficiant. The guy there said quite often it's just a bad vac-line. So I checked for leaks and made sure all lines I could get to were clear with no blockage. I went back to the store to get the light turned off and was informed that they wouldn't re-set it because they would be fined $2500. Which doesn't make sense. So I guess the stays on forever and I'll never know if the problem is fixed. Then he tells me that the light will re-set itself eventually, but he had no idea when. I think what he really meant was he just had no idea about anything. Any help would be appreciated. 99 Sable 3.0 12 valve, auto, hope that helps. Thanks.

The P0401 is more likely than not a bad DPFE sensor. Fairly common problem and code. Those sensors fail all the time. Easy to replace yourself, fortunately.

You can erase the code(s) from memory by pulling the cable off of the negative battery terminal for about 20 minutes or so.
