Well, it took a month but I have a problem with the '05 Escape. Although if this is as bad as it gets I am lucky.
I went to play the CD player this morning (basic model 6 CD changer, not the audiophile thingy) and it wouldn't play any of the 6 CD's in the player. It spit them out one at a time while displaying "CHECK CD". These are all commercial CD's, not copies. They have all played in there before today.
Any ideas? Has anyone ever taken a vehicle back to Ford for a radio issue under the warranty? How were they? Is this just the car gods telling me to get rid of the stock unit? I hate to be picky over something minor but......
Yes. My bro had this same problem. He had two replaced under warrenty. He just took it back to the dealer and they fixed it. That is the problem he had. How old is the car? My brother hated to lose his 6 disc for an aftermarket single.
I've had to bring several head units back under warranty. Ford doesn't do the repairs themselves - they have a vendor whose only job is to refurb the head units. It's likely that they will pull yours out, and in a week or two, replace it with a refurbed one. Hopefully you'll be luckier than I was - the head unit I got as a replacement was also bad, as was the one that replaced that! Fourth one worked like a charm, tho.
I solved the problem myself - I swapped the P.O.S. unit with the one in my '04 Escape (liked it better anyway) and then traded in the '04. Only problem is the '06 Hybrid has the same type as the '05 had. So far no problems though.
it's a junk design... I've replaced DOZENS (if not over 100)....
we pull them out, get part#, reinstall... when new one comes in swap it out... and if cd's are stuck inside it the rebuilder will mail the cd's back to us and we give them back to you.
Apparently there are some updated internal parts that they use when the fix them, so the "new" units won't have the same problem.
Obviously you work on these regularly so maybe you would be able to tell me what models are interchangeable? Say I went on ebay or somewhere, what model and years stereo/CD would I be able to pick up and drop right in without ANY modifications? I am looking for one to put in my '06 Escape Hybrid.
Well I can't tell you exactly if the pinouts are the same, but almost all of the ford radios i've pulled have identical connectors... and as far as i know there is no "Security" feature built into the ford radio... so as long as the dimensions are the same I think they are all pretty much interchangable... from 98 or so up. But don't hold me liable

Never....as far as I am concerned, all posts are followed "in my opinion" or "to the best of my knowledge" whether the poster says that or not. Unless the post is by Popa Tim or Fefarms - them dudes are pretty sharp......in my opinion.
