94 2.3L with 222 Code

A friend of mine has a 94 2.3L that is throwing a code 222 (No ignition diagnostic monitor signal, right side). His tach has also stopped working (not sure if these are related). I've printed the info on DIS Diagnostics and will follow it step by step tomorrow.

So far he has changed out two coil packs (I think they were perfectly good...) and he has swapped out his timing belt (over 150K on the old one so he got his money worth from it).

Checking to see if anyone has run into this 222 problem and found a common solution.

Last time I saw that code in these parts on a 2.3L it ended up being a problem with the DIS Module. Keep in mind that grounds are critical; the DIS module is grounded through the two bottom mounting screws. Hence, it's worth taking off and cleaning up the screws, the screw holes in the DIS Module, and the mounting surfaces.

Would the DIS module allow the left plugs to fire but not let the right plugs fire? Also an even dumber question, where is this module located?

one side is primary that fires at all times and the other side is secondary which fires only at or above a certain rpm. i am not sure but i thing the primary plugs are on the exhaust side. the module is mounted on the lower intake manifold.

I think someone had a problem like this and one of the mounting screws is a ground and he cleaned it and all was good. I would also make sure a the connections are clean and tight, and look for damaged wires.
