Thanks for the info. I'm about ready to give it a shot as soon as I use up my last tank. So far I've been getting about 15.5 mpg in town, so according to your experience, I may expect to get somewhere around 18.6 mpg with acetone. That's dang near 20 as far as I'm concerned.
My truck doesn't smoke much at all as it is, but it clatters pretty loudly. I'm looking forward to seeing how the acetone will affect that.
I may run the acetone in only one tank for now in order to mitigate any adverse effects. I'll post my results as soon as I have some.
PS: Now I have to go rent _Ferris Bueller's Day Off_ this weekend. "Something D O O economics. VOODOO economics."
FYI.. i put about almost 6 ounces in with 29 gallons of fuel... dumped the acetone in then filled her up to try and mix it up as good as possible... let me know how you do...

What kind (brand) of acetone did you use? I've read that the stuff from Home Depot will work, but I wonder if I should use something purer.
And yes, I figured I'd put it in like you did. Acetone first, then diesel.
I'm getting anxious. I feel like going out and driving around all day tomorrow just to use up my last tank, but of course that's antithetical to the whole idea of saving fuel by getting better mileage. Maybe I'll run a few extra errands tomorrow though.
I've seen diesel as low as 2.09 in town, but that's just at the corner gas stations where I imagine they don't sell much diesel. I go to a truck stop/travel center where they're about 10 cents higher, but I'm guessing the diesel is fresher.
"What's the score?"
"Nothin' nothin'."
"Oh. Who's winning?"
"The Bears."
bought the acetone at walmart... bottle read 100%, but the contents listed some other chemical... possibly a trace of it in the bottle...? don't know... no percentages given... you can find it in the cosmetics section...it is used to remove nail polish..! no wonder is cleans your fuel system...! go get those errands done..!

OK I tried acetone in my 1995 ford F150 4x4 before trying it in my 7.3.Results,driving speed between 55 and 72 with the cruise on as much as possible. When I filled up I had 18 gallons(total in tank) of gas so I added 7 oz of acetone drove 180 miles, filled up again and it took 11.2 gallons which equals out to be 16.07 miles per gallon. Before this I was always between 15 to 16 miles per gallon. I am now on my second tank to see if there is a different after two.Than I am going to clear the processor and try the third tank. After that the acetone bottle will be empty. I do have to say you can notice a differance in performance.
slack... if you only have 18 gallons of fuel in the tank... 7 ounces is too much... you only add 2 ounces per 10 gallons of diesel... according to that article... and i think it said too much was counterproductive.... you lost the gain in mileage really fast if you put to much in with the diesel... in other words... if you put in a little too much... you wouldn't see any gain in mpg..
mileage update... this is a tank of fuel that i am using to set up a baseline mpg.. no acetone... i'm at 150 miles with just over half a tank left... (last tank with acetone i was at 186 miles with this much fuel left)
I've got a question ! Info says acetone cleans the engine inside...do you use acetone with every fill up or just every so often ?? And how have you all been doing with it ?
Some people use acetone with every fill up, some every second fill up, some every third. The jury is still out as to how safe it is for your engine. Do an internet search and you'll find a guy who claims to have been using acetone in all sorts of engines for 50+ years with no ill effects.
Several of us are using acetone for the first time and will post mileage results as soon as we use up our tanks.
I added 4 ounces of 100% acetone to 13 gallons of gasoline in my 1997 Mazda 626, 3 tanks ago. Before I added the accetone, I was consistantly getting 29 miles per gallon on the freeway. After I added the acetone, which was 3 tanks ago, I have been getting 33 miles to the gallon, and I did not add any acetone in the last 2 tank fill ups. I am going to add another 4 ounces of acetone on my next fill up, and I will post the results here.
I think I'll try it in my '02 Kia to see what it does.
Then if all goes OK, try my PSD..
Does it mix well ? Can you just add it to a tank or wait until you fill up ?
ok... this tank... new driving types... almost no highway... lots of around town and 40-50 mph... no acetone in the tank... 13.51 mpg... I think we are back on summer diesel... gotta tow next weekend so i will take mileage on this tank... then run another with acetone to compare... probably be a lot better as i am going to tow up some REALLY BIG HILLS... mountains actually... it may be me, but i SWEAR my mule runs quieter and smoother with the acetone...
oh, btw, I GOT MY GAUGES TODAY...! whoo hooo...! i'll see if i can get some pics posted after i do the install... anybody have any idea how long it will take me to put a pyro, tranny temp, and boost gauges into a pillar pod and get em hooked up...?
