This is the best way. I takes the same amount of time, and doesn't hack up the wiring. Besides it's VERY easy, and not permanent.
Here's some more details:
-Take the lock cylinder out by inserting key > turn to on > insert slim tool (I used my test probe) in the hole under the cylinder. Pull out the cylinder.
-Put electrical tape between the contacts on the "key in" switch. It's on the side, easily found by taking key in and out. You'll see the contacts.
-Push the lock cylinder back in.
Done.
Thanks for the great tip Autobahn F-250 Lariat.
Tried that this morning. Couldn't get the cyl out. What could I have done wrong. I thought I saw a little ball detent thing in one of the holes, turned on key, pushed up on ball with small screwdriver, key cyl would not come out. Now I see wires, were my eyes deceiving me w/ the "lock ball". I've turned the key every which way but loose and everything seems to work fine, I just can't get the cyl out.
gregmck, you shouldn't be seeing any wires. I'm confused about that statement, but you do not take any plastic covers off, if thats what you did. Any way, there are five holes holding the plasitic cover on that's located under the steering column. Poke around the only non-symetrical one. It's right under the ignition lock. With the key on, you should be able to pull the whole black thing straight out (the thing that the key goes into). I guess the trick is: key on, poke the correct hole, pull straight out. I'm not sure if it's a "lock ball" or not. If you still have trouble, I'll take a photo.

I owe ya a beer buddy! I tried again and there is no ball lock, I was just seeing things w/ my poor middle age eyes.
Yes there were wires visible. If you poke around there are some in the area, in my case they just happened to be in alignment with the access hole. I got the cylinder out, put on a small square of electrical tape and wow, no chimes.
Makes a good truck even better! When I'm messing around hooking up a trailer the ding ding ding just drove me nuts. Thanks again to all who contributed.
The wire on my '05 Superduty was black with pink stripe. I just pulled apart the grey connector, pulled out the middle strip between all the connectors and removed the whole pin which holds the black/pink wire into the harness. Make for easier re-install than splicing the wires back - just in case a future owner likes that noise.
Thanks.
I just did it this way today. Worked great, and easy to put back in the future because nothing is cut.
I hope I did not screw something up, but here is what I did on my 06.
I removed the cylinder, on top of it was a contact plate, below the main conctact plate is a small contact actuated by an orange piece of plastic that moves when the key is moved.
I just popped off the upper contact. I saved it and it looks easy to put back in if you guys tell me I did something terrible. The truck started right up but I have not driven it yet.
I also disconnected mine on my 2002 F350.. I preferred the method of finding the plug and de-pinning the wire from the plug, then put a piece of shrink tube on the contact and cooked it. If I ever need to hook it back up, I remove the shrink tube, put the pin back into the plug, and all is good.. I'm glad I dont have to listen to that piece of junk anymore, as it would beep even if the key wasnt in the ignition, unless I jiggled the lock cylinder.. damn that thing..
