I stopped the seat belt ringer right off the bat...Just fasten the middle belt to the drivers belt latch. That darn key ringer, tho, had me puzzeled. I had considered forcing a screwdriver thru the ringer, but cutting the blk/pur stripe wire much nicer. THANKS Glafond!
And Thanks
I cut that wire for the key chime, on my '00 & '02. The headlight & door buzzer was taken care of by opening the fuse box & pulling the buzzer off the circut board in my '00. (then smash it with a big hammer!!!) My '02 seat belt minder was fixed by just unpluging wires from seat belt under the seat.
Does cutting this wire keep the chime off with the key in the accessory position? I have done the tape over the contacts trick and I cannot run the radio with the door open without the chime making noise. Thanks in advance.
yes, on mine it does. Cutting the wire stops the chime when the door is open and the key switch is in the "on" or in the "acc" position. Radio works fine, dome lite works fine, everything works except that durn chime!
And when I trade it in, I can simply butt splice the wire together returning the chime and making OSHA, NHTA, DOT, Fo Mo Co., and whoever else happy. Only the hydrosolator knows what I did, and only a select few can read that thing.
Everyone with an 04. Did you find that the wire was black with a purple stripe or purple with a black stripe? I cut that wire (purple/black) and it didn't stop the chime. I couldn't figure out what it did so I spliced it back together. There is a black/pink wire on that connecter as well. Is this the wire?
I will take a pic of mine and post it. I have an 04

Well, I tried to cut the only black with pink wire that I could find that was on the connector right of the steering column and it did not work. I have and 01 and it is and xl model. I followed the wire up the steering column and it did go to the key cylinder. Any help would be appreciated.
...on my 02 I took out the key cylinder and put electrical tape over the brass contacts and no more dinger
This is the best way. I takes the same amount of time, and doesn't hack up the wiring. Besides it's VERY easy, and not permanent.
Here's some more details:
-Take the lock cylinder out by inserting key > turn to on > insert slim tool (I used my test probe) in the hole under the cylinder. Pull out the cylinder.
-Put electrical tape between the contacts on the "key in" switch. It's on the side, easily found by taking key in and out. You'll see the contacts.
-Push the lock cylinder back in.
Done.
Cutting the wire worked perfectly on my 05, Turned off Chime while key in with Acc. on and in any other pos. On my 01 it worked somewhat on my 01 Works the same except the Acc. still chimes!!
I just went out and did the tape in the lock cylinder per Autobahn F-250 Lariat post and the details given by bterry. It was fast and easy. Works like I want. One thing I did was use a thin .0015 filler gage to protect the tape when I reinstalled the lock. I keep cutting the tape on the sharp edge of the lock housing.
The wire on my '05 Superduty was black with pink stripe. I just pulled apart the grey connector, pulled out the middle strip between all the connectors and removed the whole pin which holds the black/pink wire into the harness. Make for easier re-install than splicing the wires back - just in case a future owner likes that noise.
