hey sorry I haven't responded in a while. Park the car in a relatively level place and clean the area under it. then put some paper towels or a rag doqwn under the pan and start the car up and let it idle for about five minutes. You should see where it is leaking from the pan with this. While this is going on, you could check the tailpipe for any blue smoke, and if you don't see any, wait the five and then grab the throttle linkage and watch teh tailpipe while you rev the engine. If a puff shows up than the oil is only pushing past the rings or valve guides when the oil pressure comes up. And definately do the tests the other guys are telling you as well. They will be more definative.

I have been battling the same problem on my 88 f250 460 for the last 6 months. If I travel the back roads 55 or less it uses a court in 375 miles. If I drive the interstate over 55 it will use a quart in 150 miles. Saturday I took it fishing and to my mothers to spend the night. In 184 miles it used a quart plus some. Sunday I towed my brothers camper back home it only weighs 2900 lbs. Started in Beckley ran 60 miles and had to add a quart. I decided to push it on the mountains a little so held it around 3000 rpms on the interstate. I got three miles from home (60 miles since I added the last quart) and the timing chain broke. I had to add two quarts to fill it back up. I now plan to rebuild or replace!!

Good luck, hope you don't have to tow it to far! My tow bill was only 6 miles for $45 cash

My local dealer will sell me a new longblock for $2,200 or I can get a Jasper for $2,650 but I will do the install my self. First I will remove and inspect. I may try to rebuild myself if the machine shop cost isn't to high. At this time I am looking for a dependable driver that I can pass on to my son this fall for less than $2k. Lifes choices, ride a new Harley and drive an old truck!
