EDGE made my MPG Worse, NOT BETTER!!!

Everything I heard, everything I read, everything I was told was that people saw increased fuel economy after an EDGE kit installation...

BUT MINE WENT DOWN 3 mpg!

AAarghh....

I am quite disappointed with that...

The extra power is nice, but at these gas prices to go from 14 mpg to 11 is a cost I was not ready for!!!

The posts I have read, I saw that reprogramming (the SCT tuner, Xcalibrator, chips, predator) helps MPG, not the Edge or Banks stuff.

What setting you are running the box on, and what is your low boost fuel setting?

If you drive like me, extra power (fuel) will cost MPG, not gain...

PSD is on the right path. If the low boost setting is on performance, it burns more gas...
By the way, you have to drive over 16,000 miles before the 3mpg loss costs you what your Edge just cost you. I can't see buying the module for mileage reasons.
That being said, I get very grumpy when I spend 100 a week in gass.

Edge made my MPG Worse, not better.

Oh, no, you are absolutely right. I didn't buy it for improved gas mileage. But I was hoping to get it. And me too...spending $85+ per week on fuel is tough to swallow. Don't get me wrong, I like the improved performance, and I LOVE my truck. Wouldn't trade it for anything. Wish I could post a pic here....it's awesome. I have been running on the lowest setting (Mileage...go figure...) almost exclusively, and actually trying not to jump on it so I could see just how good it could be... The boost warns at 26, not sure if that's what the low boost question was?

I was chatting with another user on here a few days ago and he has an XCalibrator on his truck with ther EDGE. I wonder if that is something I should consider. Don't know much about the XCalibrator...need to do some research/reading up on it.

Thanks all for your inputs.

Edge

If your like most of us mileage goes down because the right foot does too.The extra power makes it hard to drive more normal than at first with a programmer.

Good Luck

PSD I am looking at the Edge also and the advertisement says it'll increase mileage per gallon up to 10%. Also where do you have your Atitude mounted?

I haven't seen anyone that actually uses that module make that claim either. I've always gone with the tuners and along with the power I have gotten MPG increases.

I took my edge off for some warranty work. 1st time in 7 months or so. According to my lie-o-meter, my mileage has gone from 14.1mpg with the edge to 12.8 without it. also... My truck feels really slow without the module. Can't drive it like this at all. Goes back in tomorrow. I don't care if it went down to 8mpg's... its just not as enjoyable to drive without the Edge.

Edge made my gas mileage worse...not better.

Here's a quote from Xtreme Diesel Performance's website selling the Edge...

<TABLE id=Table2 style="BORDER-COLLAPSE: collapse" cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=2 width="100%" border=0><TBODY><TR><TD class=ProdDisplay2 width="100%">Detailed Description </TD></TR><TR><TD width="100%">
The Power Edge Juice is a completely weatherproof module that easily installs underneath the hood using factory-style connections and in just five minutes. With the addition of the Attitude monitor you can add five levels of adjustable power ranging - from 40 to 115 horsepower - and increase torque up to 290 foot pounds. The Juice module greatly improves responsiveness and driveability, while at the same time increasing fuel economy. The sophisticated tuning adjustments made by the Juice also results in fuel mileage gains of up to 10% over stock.

The Juice communicates directly with the engine's ECM, from which it receives vital engine, transmission, and fuel system information. This enables the Juice to provide smooth and precise power curves that are truly custom, rather than just an offset from stock.

Actually I've been quite gentle with it because I want to see how much mpg I get. And mostly, I run in the lowest setting.

Sounds like THEY are doing the math themselves!! Like I've said many times More Power=More Fuel. BTW I wish I spent $85.00 a week for fuel, Try $150.00 aweek!!

Higher boost helps mileage, but not if it is associated with overfueling.

You want to play, you gotta pay.

Even the SCMT and Diablo won't give you any mileage gains if you are hammering it too often.

More power comes from (primarily) injector timing, more fuel, and more boost. The first two can hurt or help you, depending on your driving habits.
Conservative to moderate driving habits will make higher power levels at less load and save you fuel.

If you want to show off at every stoplight, don't be in the least bit surprised if you lose fuel mileage.
