1981 Ford F250 4x4 C6 Tranny with BW 1345 Transfer Case
1) How do you remove linkage from side of the transmission; does it press out of selector shift arm on the trans; do you drop whole linkage with the trans, or do you remove shifter arm from inside trans near the valve body? I have tried many things to try to pop rod out of selector arm; but don't want to damage it. This is only thing holding me back from dropping tranny to have it rebuilt.
2) I have removed the 1345 Transfer Case. Where are you getting your gasket from that goes between the trans and transfer. Gasket; not silicone or putty.
Thanks
The linkage can be a bear to get apart.
There is a special tool but I use channel lock pliers.
Gaskets can be purchased at any Ford parts department.
Or you can get some gasket material and make your own.
Been there, done that.
Thanks Stuart1. The linkage is tough; that's why I asked b4 I broke it. I am dropping tranny myself to save bucks and taking to a rebuilder. I ran across statement in Haynes manual not to take it apart or you must replace bushings. I think I will remove selector shaft from tranny and leave the whole thing hanging next to frame.
I was leaning toward making my own gasket; because the chain parts stores don't seem to have it. I'll try Ford. I found a gasket/seal kit from drivetrain.com for the BW1345 for $16.80. The gasket alone is $2.08; at Ford it may be about $10.
Thanks again
