I have a 1992 F150 that I recently built into a prerunner off road truck and was hoping sombody could help me figure out how to set up the transmission. The engine is no longer computer controled and is a carburated 351w with a E4OD tranny. I bought a stand alone computer from Baumann Enginnering but am having problems hooking up a speed sensor to the computer. Originally the sensor was located on the differential but was soon replaced with a ford 9. I went ahead and bought a speed sensor from ford and installed it at the tail housing of the transmission. I then noticed there was no gear on the output shaft for the sensor to mate up to. Ford does not have a clue how to get one because they say the gear is machined into the shaft. Could sombody please help me figure this out or lead me in the right direction to install a speed sensor else where, if you know something about these please post some info, thanks Ted Thompson
If I understand what your saying, there is no drive gear in the transmission to turn your speed sensor(driven gear)? You may be able to replace the tail shaft on the E4OD with one from a used/blown transmission but I'm not sure if the tail section is easily removable. It's been a while since I crawled under my truck. Try a transmission shop or better yet ask Bauman, they will now for sure.
I think ford went to the diff for the speed/ABS sensor after '90 or '91 so look for something older to salvage parts from.
Sounds like your going to have to swap out your transmission or press a tone ring onto your 9 inch like 92 f150300six suggested. Either way there is no easy fix.
