1985 F250 XL/6.9L/4x4/BW1345 transfer case/C6 auto transmission/100k miles
I think I have ATF leaking from my C6 into the transfer case. Is this possible? Is there a seal in there that could go bad?
I was replacing a leaky seal on the BW1345 for the rear output shaft and when I went to check the transfer case fluid level (which I assumed would be low since it was leaking for a couple of weeks), fluid shot out of the fill hole. So I checked the C6 level which was low (after just being filled). SO, I am assuming the fluid is migrating from the C6 to the transfer case.
Am I on the right track here? Is the seal easy to remove & replace?
I cant see how trans fluid can leak from the trans and leak into the trans case ? The trans output shaft has a seal ...also there is a seal btw the trans and transfer case , the trans case has a small slit at the bottom that is there to indicate a leak from the trans output shaft or the transfer case input shaft . Remember to check the trans fluid level hot with the C6 . If the C6 fluid level is low , you have a seperate leak in the trans .

Paul-
I checked my C6 fluid when hot and it was low. I can't see any leaks on the tranny. But, what I found to be weird was the transfer case fluid being so high when I expected it to be low since it was leaking for while from the rear output shaft seal.
You mention that there is a seal between the tranny and the transfer case. Can't this seal be bad just like any other seal?
