What is the reputation of the BW 1345 TC?
Hi,
I have an 85 F250 that was a diesel. I'm converting it to a 400 with a C6. The C6 came with a NP 205 TC which I have heard is all gears and super tough. Problem is both my driveshafts will have to be modified (one shortened one lengthened) and I'll have to add that bracket to the frame to hold up the transfer case. I guess that will have to be fabbed since I don't think 205's went into the 80-up trucks did they?
The diesel tranny has a BW 1345 behind it and I tried fitting it behind this C6 and it fits fine. And it looks like my driveshafts will fit without any mods if I keep the BW1345.
Is the 1345 a good transfer case? If I stay with the 1345 am I giving up enough reliabilty to make it worth going to the trouble to switch to the 205?
I have no plans for serious offroading.
What does everyone think?

The trans and xfer cases are the same for gas and diesel.
I've got a 1345 in an '81 F250. I've had it for six years and use it mostly for towing and hauling, so it gets a lot of torque put on it.
1345's use Dexron ATF, but it's a pressurized lube system.

I've been beating the crap out of the BW1354 in my 84 F250 for going on 8 years straight. I regularly pull trailers with it, plow snow, pull stumps, occasional off road recoveries, I've even pulled a couple stuck semi trucks out with it. I think aluminum chain drive transfer cases are heavily underestimated. The NV271/273s used in Super Duties are rated for 1,100 lb ft of torque, that's nothing to sneeze at. The NP205 is only rated for 800 lb ft of torque, surprising I know. I read an article in Peterson's 4 wheel a couple years ago comparing chain to gear drive transfer cases.
