This has been in the pre-powerstroke forum and I thought I put it here. Its worth a good laugh! Especially the part about out pullin the PSD Superduty!!
An engine out of a Massey Fergusin tractor......an engine engineered for high torque at low RPMs......it just might outpull a PSD. If he can get the power to the ground.
I've got two Massey Ferguson tractors w/ Perkins diesels here on the farm, granted their not turbo'ed but the 4 cylinder Perkins is only 55 hp and the bigger 6 cyl. Perkins is only 85 hp!
I've seen quite a few Perkins diesels being shoved into older Fords, definately not nothing new.
The 5.9L Cummins was originally a Case Tractor motor if memory serves me right.
Those diesels have a boat load of torque, and decent ponies for the era. I don't necessarily think that good mpg is out of the realm of possibility, but I would agree that 50 mpg is a tad optimistic. It definately doesn't have 350 Hp, maybe 350 ft-lbs though.
Considering that the last item this seller sold resulted in a negative feedback (this seller has sold very items), I'd say buyer beware.
Considering that it has exactly half of the cylinders of our PSD's, on paper it should be more fuel efficient.
With the proper gearing, the truck could do just fine as a puller, but it would never out pull a SD....well for the most part.
