Question 54 lower steering column mount w/stock column

Is there a lower column mount in the floor for the stock steering column? My 54 F100 floor is a little hacked up by the PO, and I'm getting ready to convert to Toyota power steering. All the posts here and catalogs mention a lower column mount for using an aftermarket or GM column, but I may stay with the stock column. Do I need it/want it?

I'm ready to start collecting all the parts I need, so you may see a few more questions from me on this subject. I've spent hours and hours pouring over the posts here and they have been AWSOME! (I would love a detailed, consolidated how-to like the front suspension thread.)

Thanks,
Brad

I have a Toyota box in my 54; soon after installing it with the stock column, I switched to a GM column. Bad planning on my part.

If you are interested in a stock column with the Ujoint to the Toyota, or just the Ujoint (I could cut it off the shaft) let me know. It was only on the truck for under 50 miles of driving.

doesn't the 2 piece floor plate have a retainer/mount made on it?

FF56,
I think the 2 piece plate (mine was actually 4 with a rubber gasket sandwiched in between) just encircles the column and shift rod at the floor. The steering box bolts to the frame and the under dash bracket supports the upper column in the cab. I could be wrong as it's been many years since I removed that piece.
Good Luck!

I built the plate out of 3/16 plate and welded the clamp that held the column to the box on to hold it. I used a hardware store (mower wheel?) bearing on the bottom of the column. The shaft measures a tad over the ID of the bearing and Had to be filed or machines down. The bearing OD was right for the stock column. A retainer bushing (same source) holds it all together.
