I removed a used 130a. 3g off a Taurus 3.8, but I didn't get the year. I also cut off about a foot of the wire harness that plugs to the alt. I solder the wht/blk together, and connected yel/wht to the batt terminal. So basically I have 2wires coming out, the huge blk/red (8 ga. or bigger) to go to the pos. side of the battery or starter solenoid and the grn/red to key run. Do I have it correct?? I'm having it tested at NAPA or CARQUEST before I install. I still need to swap to the v-pulley. Thanks for any response.
Many...including myself have used a 175amp mega fuse between the alt. and the solenoid for protection.
where can I get a mega fuse? Is it on the factory wire harness or can I get it aftermarket?
Sorry Maui for the delay in gettin gback to you. You should be able to pick up the megafuse and fuse holder at a NAPA or other auto store. The wiring harness can be purchased at PAPerformance.com Let me know if you need pictures of what the fuses look like.
no problem CJ, I've actually reposted this thread on the early bronco forum and one of the members linked me to the mega fuse from crutchfield. We discussed the use of a 3G in a early bronco and both agreed that it might be a fire hazard to run 130a. in my old wiring in order to allow use of the factory amp gage. He pointed out that it would be safer to connect the batt. wire directly to the (+)battery terminal or solenoid, and run a volt meter to monitor charging function.
I'm currently running my alternator on a 5.8 efi that is on a test stand while I decide what to do next.

I have an 86...next year it will be a classic...funny huh? Yeah I would agree with the amp meter, I went with a aftermarket amp gauge very happy with it. Besides, the stock one never worked anyway. Are you worried about the rest of the stock wiring or just the amp meter when installing the 3G?
What year Bronco do you have? Do plan on putting the 5.8 in a classic? (60-70's model) Man...if so that thing would have some *****! I would do some searching to find out what others have done with the 130amp and a classic.
Nevermind...I just looked at your gallery...sweet ride! Just needs some bigger meats to handle that 5.8L What rims do you have? They look like the Micky Thompson Classic II's like mine... here is my truck
Here is a link to my Superford page to check out my truck and future projects. Planning a complete restore hopefully by the end of the summer.
