Gear Shifter
Hello, 98 X EB 5.4 3.73 with 94K.
Went to shift into drive from park,
pulled shifter to me and down. Engaged fine but a horrible grinding sound came from the shift arm, (popping / grinding).
Ideas?

I have a 99 Expedition and had the shifter cable break. I did not realize it until after I changed the cable but the old one was much more difficult to shift. You may have a cable that is coming apart inside the housing. It is not difficult to change and cost me $65 at the dealer for parts.
