Have a 1999 SD 7.3 with 108,000 miles. Today I'm sitting at a stop light and it died. Waited a couple minutes, it started and got it home. On the way back to work it died again, so I headed for the dealer. It died 3 more times on the way there. They said was the crank shaft/cam shaft sensor. Close to $200 for the sensor, $375 total. Is this a fair price? If not, what is a fair price?
find your nearest International Dealer and ask for the CPS for your model powerstroke and they run more or less around 100, i understand its easy enough to swap out yourself. do a search on the site on how to replace it. good luck
ditto on redstroker's info...get the cps from international dealer and change it yourself, takes about 15 mins if you are taking your time doing it. i keep a spare cps and tools in my trk all the time.
I appreciate the input from everyone. I realize repairs like this are not that difficult once you know what the problem is and know how to replace the part and much cheaper if you do them yourself, but I seldom have time to research the problem and take the risk of digging into a repair that I don't know exactly how to perform. On this one, I'm really just looking for feedback to determine if the dealer I go to is treating me fair (that's a relative term) and hopefully this post will help someone else with a similar problem. Maybe help identify the problem or estimate repair costs, however they choose to do it. Thanks for your input.
