Question 99 f250 PSD Air Filter

I'm very excited guys...I just purchased my first f250 PSD from my brother. I am looking to improve the air filter system. It is currently OEM would like to do something but not to expensive. I just went out & check the air filter & it is wet from the spring Georgia rains... The manufacture's date is 6/98 any information? What else would be a good low cost improvment? I love this sight.

This has been talked about for a while now, and I'm going to be doing it in the next few days

congrats on your new PSD...! i have looked into this extensively last weekend. i got LOTS of great advice from the most excellent people on this forum, and, i looked at tons of site on the net. I decided to go with the AIS severe duty system by Ford. I was looking at the Volant Cold Air filter, but it is very expensive, around $350. I looked at just putting on a large aftermarket filter, but i like the idea of pulling the air for the engine from "outside" of the engine compartment. i looked at the stock filter on my 02 F350. even with a section that is cutout of the side of the factory airbox, (i guess to feed air to the filter in case the intake would get blocked), the inlet that is in front of the radiator was drawing a large amount of cold air while the truck idled. now, the guys at ford redesigned a new system that bolts in place of this one that uses filter technology like that on the M1 Abrams Tank, seals up tight to keep dust out, and draws the air in the same way that stock system does. so, i decided to go with that. the nice thing is that i got this and had it shipped ground frieght for $230.
sorry for the long post, but i thought my research might help, if you go to this link, this is where i got my kit https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...d.php?t=277571

My truck has pretty much the same build date as yours, NAPA# 6637 will tuck in there very nicely. I'd post a picture but it looks exactly like Kwiks filter.

Does the local NAPA store carry the 6637 filter or does it have to be ordered?
Got a '03 7.3 PSD, is there anything else I will need to purchase aside from the 6637 filter?
What do I do with the two wire bundles going to the stock housing, what are they for?

Thanks ya'll....
Steve..

There have been a couple of threads on the NAPA 6637 filter lately. I plan on doing the mod as soon as my warranty is up on June 1.

Here is a link for one of the threads with lots of info on it.

I used a tie wrap for the sensor, attached it to the relay braket for the tow package. I did not have to buy anything extra for the filter, pulled the entire snorkle, so to say, off, took it to the work bench, it was pretty cold when I did mine so I heated it up a little so it would stretch over the filter easier. Yes, I had to have it ordered in, but did not have to pay shipping if Napa ordered it. Mine is actually a wix filter, 45 bucks or so on the price. I have the picture in my gallery if you haven't seen what it looks like.
