Whats going on everyone... Wednesday my truck died on me three times while driving.. Started right back up each time. The sercive engine light came on once. I took it to my mechanic and they hooked it up to a computer for codes. They told me the cam shaft sensor was the problem and I should take it in to the dealer. On the way home from my mechanic it died again, yet this time would not restart!! I had my buddy tow me home with his Dodge.. Anyway my question is I was told this is possibly due to low engine oil. I had checked the oil and it was indeed low. hasen't even been 3K miles since my last change. I had the dealer tow it in for repairs today. I have 57,000 miles on her now. Does anyone think I may have done some serious engine damage with the low oil.. or is that what the sensor is there to protect? any help is appreciated!! Thanks...... by the way the codes were .. P0340 & P0344
You probably didn't do any damage to the engine, even though the oil level was low. The engine oil is also the "hydraulic fluid" that fires your injectors, so if your oil level runs too low, your injectors quit firing, and this happens before any major damage would occur.
The CPS is a part that will give you the same symptoms as you're experiencing, and since you've got low miles on the truck, it will likely be a warranty item. Once you're out of warranty, buy the replacement CPS at International for about half of what Ford wants for it. It's in the same bag, it just costs twice as much at Ford.
Hello! Did you ever figure out what was causing you stalling issue? I am having the same problem with my '99 F350. Cam position sensor replaced but that did not fix problem. Engine oil was down 4 quarts due to one bad piston so oil level sensor also replaced. That that solved the problem, but it's now doing it again. Let me know if you solved the problem. Amy
Hi Amy. You would be better off to start your own thread, the participants in this one don't seem to be hanging here any more. There are at least two other threads with these same symptoms that you might want to peruse for ideas as well.
