fuel pump

i have an 89 ford f150 with a 300 straight 6 and a c6 transmision dual tanks. and i am wondering if a fuel pump can sound like it is runing but not be pumping. thanks in advance

It has been a while since I pulled a tank fuel pump but I have seen a similar situation. I have seen the base of a fuel pump fall or pop off and allow the fuel to be swirled around but not be pumped out of the tank. It will basically sound the same but will not pump fuel. I am not sure if this could happen in your application but it is something that I have seen in the past. Good luck.
