I have a 99 Expy, and I was wondering if the rear brakes get worn as much as the front brakes. I replaced my front brakes 6000 miles ago and now I'm hearing a metal to metal grinding noise. I thought that the rear brakes don't get used as much. Also do the Rotors in the rear just pop off?
The rear on my 01 F-150 and on my 03 Expedition both wore as quick if not quicker. I asked the parts guy at my dealer about it and found out that on vehicles with tow package the brake bias is set more to the rear to help with towing.
I can't comment on the wear, as I just bought mine and both the front and rears were bad. I replaced them both. Yes the rears just pull off once you get the caliper out of the way. Also don't forget to have your parking brake off, or they won't come out either.
Well I checked out real good today the source of the grinding and it is coming from the front, I replaced my brake pads with ceramic pads do these tend to wear out faster than metallic? I only had them on for 6000 miles
Well I feel like an idot, the source of the grinding noise was from the rear. Anyway I changed the front rotors and also the rear rotors. I had to use a sledge hammer to get those suckers off (and a couple of new words that haven't been invented yet). The brakes are done 6 hours after the fact. Thanks for all of your help everyone.
