00- Expy Question about valve covers?
Had a bad valve cover gasket on my truck's 4.6L. I had to bring it to a Chevy dealer for the work (whom I bought the truck and an extended warantee from). It seems the mechanic has been trying to order the valve cover gaskets, keeps getting the wrong ones, but everything says they are the right parts. Is this a grand conspiracy, or is this Chevy guy just out of his element? Are there more than one Modular 4.6L Triton?

The Chevy dealer may not know that there are (2) versions of the 4.6L engine: a Romeo (Michigan) engine with a "W" as the 8th character in the VIN and a Windsor (Canada) engine with a "6" as the eigth character in the VIN. I know that between the two engines there are a diferent numer of bolts on the LEFT valve cover (not sure on the right): supposedly (11) on the Romeo and (13) on the Windsor. I've never bought a replacement, but the valve cover gaskets COULD be diferent for the two engines. Ask the Chevy guy if he'll explain the process he used to order the gaskets. If his response is "Huh?", I'd double-check with a Ford dealer or a reputable after-market auto parts place. Good luck.
