Dash indicators / guages wont initialize

I have a 2001 Expedition, every 4 or 5 times the ignition is turned, the dash won't initialize and the vehicle won't start. I give it 5 min., turn the key then everything lights up and guages sweep. Does anybody have an idea where to start looking?

Either the GEM Generic Electronic Module or Battery is where I'd look. First I'd look at the battery...Sounds like it needs help quick. Maybe a new one. A gauge sweep is a tell tale sign of a weakening battery. Actually I'd stay away from the gem if at all possible

I agree. This is a common symptom of a failing battery. check that first It's probably due.

Battery failing?

In reference to the guage sweep, fail to start symtoms I presented before, When the engine won't start, It still cranks normally and will try to start but the fuel system in't energized. Is this still an indication of a failing battery???
