96 F150 2wd 4.9L manual.
Seemingly more when its cold, but regularly too, it seems my clutch is chattering in 1st gear, almost stuttering to the point of choking out when I try to take off from a stop. Any hints?
The pedal is not adjusted properly and you have been dragging the clutch. this causes the flywheel surface to overheat and crack and glaze over. I had the same problem. Check to make sure the clutch pedal has full travel to both stops. Also check slave cylinder's travel, if you don't have proper travel then the clutch is going to take a beating.
The clutch plate is contaminated. This could be from an oil leak in the bellhousing or even from the "flywheel on this side" sticker coming off and ruining the surface. Pop the inspection port and look for contamination.
The Pressure plate they install was either torqued down incorrectly or is faulty. Uneven finger engagement can cause chatter. Open port and inspect PP.
If they didn't re-surface the flywheel, you could get some chatter. Back in my youth I went through several clutches in about 2 years, until someone mentioned re-surfacing the flywheel.
not sure actually.stupid of me. i stupidly assumed the dealer would treat the car as their own. so i'm not totally sure. i'll have to go look at the ticket.
