If the motor is running (using gas) and the truck isn't moving (no miles being accumulated) then gas milage will decrease.

Not to mention a cold engine needs more fuel to keep running (carb or FI) so if your only doing short trips and never warming up your always burning more gas than if the truck was warmed up. Which goes back to using gas while idleing to warm up. You can't win

sure you can, get a bicycle to pedal to work

seriously, you have to empty your tank (like use 90% of the gas) in order to get a good reading.

plus, 3miles a day is a very short commute, you have to spend, what, $20 a week in gas?

If you want efficiency, you are going to have to ditch the truck and get a honda.

i have a grand am I drive to commute local and have a work truck to drive to work.

but, consider your self lucky if you can get 9 mpg on that short drive to work.

problem is im getting 6.5, not 9.. if i was getting 10 or 11 i'd be happy.
