backfire problems

I have a 85 ford with a 300 inline. When I try to punch it in 3rd or fourth it wants to backfire on me and but if u back off the pedal then it will slowly increase its speed .I have checked my timing and it is set. I wish I could find a used four bb intake and carb it would be nice .

It sounds like you may need to rebuild the carburetor. It sounds like your accelerator pump may be getting ready to crap out.
