i got a 81 ford f-150 ranger xlt with good ol' home built smoke stacks an recently i decided i wanted to be goin down the highway with flames rollin outa them bad boys so i went n bought a bran spankin new 81 ford f-150 ranger ignition coil for a 302 small block V-8 an wired it positive, though a switch, an negative, grounded to the frame, an when i hit the switch THE DAMN THING DONT WORK!!!!!!! i've replaced the wiring, the coil, checked the switch,EVERYTHING!!!!! what in gods good green earth could be wrong with 'er boys? please help me out......
A lot of those flame thrower setup run off of propane, or there is some kind of interruptor. The one I saw, the guy had to flood it real good, and when he hit the switch, it cut the power from the ignition and sent it to the coil in the pipes. He would then switch back over before the engine died.
The coil only discharges when the power is turned off the primary side causing the magnetic field to collaspe which in turn induces power to the secondary (high voltage) side of the coil. You only get one spark per on off cycle. For this to work you need some way to rapidly turn your coil on and off. Plus you need some sort of fuel in the stack if your truck is tuned right you won't be able to ignite straight exhaust gas.
i've been told that the gasses have enuf flamability to em to still burn n i've seen em burn on smaller motors, how could i get a lot of sparks to go through there the way i've got 'er set up?
