'69 F250. The emergency flasher switch has gone bad. It's under the dash on right side- sort of a toggle switch, on/off. Now my brake lights/4-ways won't work. Turn signals, running lights OK. I've replaced turn signal switch, but that didn't fix it. There's power to the emergency flasher switch, but not coming out. I need to find a new one, but it's not in the catalogs, and there's nothing this old up here in the boneyards. Can anyone steer me in the right direction to find a replacement? Maybe someone has one they could part with? (It's not the in-dash type like my '70.) Any help appreciated. Thanks.
Thanks for the quick response, but I need the actual Emergency Flasher Switch assembly, with the wiring attached to the back and not just the little flasher cylinder.
Thanks for those responses jstandle. That first item on ebay is just what I needed. However, I've discovered a new wrinkle. It turns out that if I hit the turn signal, and have the emergency flasher switch in on position, the 4/ways work. If I don't have the turn signal going, 4/ways don't. Still no brake lights.
This may be your turn signal switch that is bad. Test for power going into and out of your brake light switch. Then test for power going into and out of the turn signal for the brake wire. You have to disconnect the wires on the column for this.
jowiliker: I'm not trying to run 4ways and turn signal at the same time, it's just that I discovered that the only way to run the 4ways is if the turn signal is on (either left or right-doesn't matter).
rebocardo: I'm inclined to agree with you. I have a new turn signal switch and hooked it up and had the same problem (no brake lights). I noticed that the old turn signal switch had different color wires than the ones under the dash. I assumed that the column had been changed at some point since it's not the same color as the rest of the truck and the front has disk brakes. The column wire colors on old turn signal switch are:
big connector: blue/yellow, green/white, blue/white, light blue, red/black.
little connector: orange/blue,green/brown.
The dash wire colors are:
big connector: blue/yellow, green/white, blue/white, light blue, dark green.
little connector: light green, yellow/black.
The new turn signal switch has wires the same colors as the dash wires. Would the new turn signal switch have to be mounted in the column to work properly, 'cause I hooked it up outside the column to see if it would work before I went ahead and pulled the old one? Thanks for the help and suggestions so far.
