LAST EDITED ON 31-Aug-01 AT 10:14 AM (EST)[p]Last night I was trying to track down a short in the electical system. I was crawling around under the dash tracing wires when I found the turn signal flasher. Not the little round thing I'm used to. Big square dealy bolted down. Has original Ford pn stamped on it. It's drawing current with the key off and the neg battery terminal disconnected so I'm suspecting it as the cause of my short. I also discovered an emergency flasher switch in the glove box that has disintigrated....literally come apart. Appears factory. The wiring harness branches off to it and there is a neatly cut hole in the top of the glove box insert for the wires to access the switch. Also, the turn signals work even with the ignition off. Never had a vehicle do that, but I'm thinking it has something to do with the emergency flasher switch and the big heavy duty flasher....maybe the whole set up was a factory option? Anyway, I need a source for the big flasher and the emergency flasher switch (toggle switch, mounts in the glove box with a four wire plug in). The LMC Truck book doesn't show either of these items. Anyone have a source?
P.S. Here's the part numbers on the parts themselves. I post these numbers in the hopes one of you has a master parts book and can tell me if Ford still offers these (or any other source).
Square turn signal flasher: C7TB-13350-A
Glove box mounted emergency flasher switch: C6AB-13A350-A1
Thanks in advance!

It can't. That's part of the test. You disconnect the neg battery cable, then touch it back to the post. If it sparks, something is drawing current. Then you poke around unplugging things one at a time, doing the spark test each time you disconnect something new. When the spark stops, the last thing you disconnected is what's drawing the current. At least that's the theory.

The way I do it is similar, but I unhook the neg cable and clip test light lead to cable and touch end to batt terminal. Then when there is a draw, it lights up, when the light goes out - the draw is gone. That way you can just look through the window, instead of getting out and going to the batt every time...

I think I needed the same emergency flasher switch you did. In 67 and 68, they mounted in the glove box, but in 69 Ford started putting them under the dash. It's a metal toggle switch, right? With a four "blades" on the back that plug into a four slot connector under the dash? Anyway, none of the Ford truck parts companies had them, but my father in law, who restores Mustangs, told me to get some Mustang parts catalogs. Sure enough, National Parts Depot had them in their catalog. The switch itself was the same exact part as the dead one on my 69 F100, though the black mounting bracket was slightly larger on the Mustang part. No problem, I just used the bracket from my dead original switch and the switch mechanism from NPD.
I don't have a catalog handy, but they shouldn't be hard to find. National Parts Depot is one of the bigger companies in the Mustang repro parts business.

i just purchased a 67 f-250 custom cab camper special with 10 ft self contained camper. I new it needed work but man. it took 3 pts of jack oil and a lot of guts to get the camper off but thats a different story. After I got the camper off I found that there was no power to the brake lights or any thing back there and wires were all hacked and spliced together with other mystery wires. The under side of the dash had alot of burned wires one wire came from the cigarette lighter and went to this square box you are discribing same part # and everything my 4-way flasher looks aliright. I replaced the sections of wire that was burned, but have other questions about other wiring parts on the truck it would be great if I could possibly download the wiring diagram somewhere or somehow. I would like to have the truck and camper ready for the spring time so any kind of response might help, and thanks for telling me what switch I had in my hand.

You dont need the original flasher bud!!! Just snip the ends that are on the wires, but two female blade ends on it, and plug in a new style round one. Thats what they did in my truck and it works great. The turn signals do come on without the ignition though...must a been "another great Ford invention"...lol!!!
