weird starter bendix

Hello i have another question about my truck.
Its a 63 with a 223.The starter bendix or drive
is bad so i took it off and got one from the
parts store well its not the right one so i take
it back and go threw the book with him looking
at 223 starters a drives. They all look just like
the one they gave me the first time. so i get
my money back come home looked at the one
that was on my truck. The starter seems to be
the original but the bendix looks like one from
a ford 8n tractor Is that possible. I even went
threw many parts suppliers online and they sell
the exact same bendix. I took the bendix off its
on my desk. My question is what to do now. I
got my wife to stop and get the bendix that i
dropped off this morning ill see i i can fiqure out
how it goes on when she gets here. Any ideas
or advice this truck just keeps thowing me in a loop.

I have seen differant types of drives for the old Ford V8's that interchange and I'm not up on the 6's, but as long as the shaft is the same around and the bendix is the same length and the gear has the same number of teeth it should work. The older drives on the Fords were what I allways called a reverse pull drive. I don't know if I helped you or not, good luck.

You don't mentiom if the truck is a standard or automatic, so I'm going to assume it's a stick. The std has only one starter, the automatic lists 2 different ones. Anyway, the starter drive part number is C2AZ 11350-C (motorcraft SD-132). THis is the old style drive with the big spring on the end and the cover and gear towards the starter itself. Does your bellhousing have a tin cap on the backside opposite to where the starter mounts? If so, it takes the type I'm talking about. It'd probably 3-4 inches long and the spring has flat loops It has a large headed bolt on the side of it.
Take the Ford and motorcraft numbers I listed above to NAPA or any good auto parts store and they can cross those numbers and get you one. I can also locate a Ford one if you want.

Let me know,
Barry

doesn't have a bolt head. Is there anyway
i can send you a picture Barry or anybody
who may know where to get one. I just spent
an hour at advance auto parts going threw
all of there books and computer. We found
one in a book but it had no part number "duh"
whats the book for.

Ok, that's the one I described. Go to a good parts store, not Advanced. They stink.
Send me a email at bmccloskey at sbcglobal.net

THat tractor starter in the pic is similar to a 8BA/8RT Flathead V8 starter. THe drive is basically the same for the Y block and 223 engines. Parts book shows they use same starter.
