Quad I have a question about these box codes that I am now so interested in. My '96 has a naw4 and it sucks. my '97 has a tdeo and I like it alot. I know you have had alot of experience with the box codes. what is you favorite and why.
the naw4 the T/C unlock as soon as the IVS is restored, the truck will jump 100 rpm's when put in gear, and it will almost die when put in park. this box realy does suck, have you had any experience with it.
I thought you had a few tee3 or 4's around how do you like these.
sorry for all the questions just debating what I am gunna do with this crappy naw4

My stock box code on my 95 is TEE5. If you hate your NAW4, you ought to try the TEE5. It makes me wonder why I was impressed with how the truck ran when I got it.
My favorite codes are TDE0 and TDE1, which is just an enhanced version of TDE0. If you take your truck into the dealership, and have the pcm reflashed, it'll be a TDE1 when you get it back. That's the most recent code from Ford for the OBS automatics, and is by far the most drivable, user-friendly code. Of course, for the cost of getting the pcm reflashed, you could also pick up a chip with that code, and have a little more power, too.
I was reading on "the other site" this morning about a Jody Tipton reflash. there only supposedly $75 so I was wondering if it would just be worth having that done to the NAW4. I can live without the truck for awhile, or I was gunna see if I could just get another box from a junker. I ran the NAW4 in the 97 today and I will prolly tomorrow just to see if the '97 starts as bad as the '96 when cold, still trying to diagnose that trucks idle problem.
the TDE0 or TDE1 are the best you say. if it isnt to hard to type it all what are the characteristics of it. how do the TDE0 and TDE1 differ. I too like my TDE0.
Just trying to learn I am sure you understand, you once were like me on these codes.
Only a programmer like Jody Tipton or Tony Wildman can define the difference between a TDE0 and TDE1. I think of them as being interchangable, as do most other people. If you're working with either Jody or Tony, you're in good hands, but getting a pcm from a junker isn't easy or cheap. You can always look on eBay for one. I sold one there a few weeks ago, after having bought it a few weeks earlier. There seems to be something there quite often.
Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.
The place I can get the junker is actualy a implement dealer. I get alot of exhaust parts there, he has a few OBS PSD's out in the junk lot, he yanks the motors and tranny's and the rest of the truck ust sits there so I think I will be able to get a few PCM's for cheap. I will have to go check them out tomorrow and see what they are.
I will also be calling Jody tomorrow to talk about having that NAW4 reflashed. I really wanna get it set up so that the T/C will stay locked until the truck slows to about 30 MPH instead of unlocking when you touch the brakes cuz this truck will strickly be a tow rig for the demo/ truck pulling season. no real need for a huge flip chip.

The torque converter will still unlock if you tap the brakes, even with the TDE0 or TDE1 programming. You can work around that with a manual override switch that will keep the torque converter locked until you flip the switch.
What either of the TDE programs will do is keep the torque converter locked until you get down around 30mph as long as you stay off the brake pedal. If you hit the brakes, and the torque converter unlocks, you only have to tap the throttle to lock it up again, as long as you're going faster than 36mph at the time.
Why not take the junkyard pcm and have it reflashed. Then you don't have to take the truck apart twice? Or, better yet, try to get lucky and find a pcm with TDE0 programming? Then there's nothing to reflash!!
Are you feeling lucky?
Scott.
Yea I knew they unlocked, in my sig both trucks have the T/C lock with all the cool led's. But I know that you can also have them programed to stay locked with your foot on the brake until you drop below 35 or 30 I thought.
Have to cross fingers and see what that PCM is tomorrow after work I will be goin there, I will also call jody see what he says about the reflash. I think just a 75 horse program or so will be good enough for this truck. its all up in the air right now, will have some solid plans by tomorrow evening though.

Just for the sake that I am bored, the PCM is out of the '96 which is just sitting in the yard waiting to suck up some more money on the Veggie stroke project. I am waiting for parts so it aint goin anywhere, and the PCM isnt goning back in for awhile anyway. I threw the NAW4 into my daily driven '97 and it truely does suck, seems to have just a lil more top end, and the EGT's realy shoot up, but it doesnt boost as high as the TDE0. go figure. it will still hit 1150* but 2 PSI less boost. I am gunna run it for a few days see what I think. But I think that it will either get reflashed or if the junker is a good one then the NAW4 goes on EBAY
I am still gunna have one reflashed wether a TDE0 or not more of a sleeper look to have the program just in the PCM and no chip, possibly a way to get around a few rules at the local pulls SHHHH dont tell.
Well, if you don't mind bending the rules a little, see if Jody can install a hotter version of the TDE0 in the pcm, so you can run without a chip and still have a little edge on the competition.
I won't tell. Your secret is safe with me. Of course, who knows who else is reading this?
